Yesterday morning we began our trip to Grenada, leaving from our daughter's house in Brandon, FL around 4am. Being the day after Thanksgiving, we were sure there would be crowds at the Tampa International Airport, but when we got there everything was quiet and there were no lines. Our trip through security was effortless. Our plane tookoff from Tampa at 7:05 am enroute first to Atlanta, GA, then to San Juan, PR, and then finely to St. George's, Grenada, landing here around 8pm. Our total flight time, utilizing 3 aircraft, was 7 hours and 47 minutes, traveling a distance of 2477 miles.
The place where we are stay arranged transportation from the airport to our beautiful ocean front cottage where we arrived around 9pm. The office was already closed for the day, but since they were expecting us their security guard took us to our apartment. We were both tired and hungry so first we walked down to a nearby restaurant for dinner. We both had a steak sandwich with fries and a salad, plus we each had one drink with our meal. Then came the sticker shock. Our bill was $51 USD. We won't be able to eat there very much again.
Today we got up late in the morning and had the office here arrange a car rental for us when we checked in. Everything I read about driving in Grenada recommended renting a 4-wheel drive vehicle, so, that's what we got for a week. We rented a small Toyota SUV, but everything here with 4-wheel drive is call a Jeep.
The car rental company brought the Jeep out to us here at the cottages and we got started around noon for a short drive to explore our surroundings. Driving here is something else. Our Jeep is a right-hand drive, and everyone drives on the left side of the road. On top of that the 2 lane roads here barely make a single lane in the States. Our short drive took us clear around the country. They gave us a road map, but there are no road signs. Our max speed around the island was 40 Km/h (25 mph), not because of traffic, but that's how bad the roads are. We had to stop for gas, getting 5 gallons costing us $24.90 US dollars. That comes out to be almost $5 a gallon. So next time you go to fill up, be thankful that the USA still has cheap gas. We got back to our cottage, after stopping for some groceries, around 4:30 pm.
Barb took lots of pictures but I haven't downloaded them yet. As soon as I do I'll post them here on our travelogue.

We are Kenny and Ginny. We call Northeast Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula home during the summer months. Together, we enjoy recreational boating on the Oconto River and the Bay of Green Bay and camping in the cooler northern states. When the boating season is over, we become snowbirds and head south for the winter with our luxury DRV Moble Suites 5th-wheel trailer that we call Château de Sallé.
I bought the Château de Sallé in July 2018 with my late wife Nancy after our Monaco Windsor motorhome, OWFISH, was totaled in an accident.
